This resulted in a much higher success rate for the attackers, allowing them to penetrate the defenses of even the most secure companies.

Additionally, attackers have started to target smaller businesses and individuals. Even though these targets result in a smaller pay out, they are typically easier to penetrate. Regardless of the specific tactics used, cyber criminals are able to generate substantial revenue from their attacks. According to some estimates, cyber crime is expected to cost companies $10.5 trillion by 2025.
